Alimuom sa Takip-Silim by CSB<\/h2>

How young should students be to be able to know about politics? How\nyoung should they be aware of what is happening to the government of the\ncountry in which they were born? Older generations would call us out for\nalways being on our phones, even though one way we learn about society is by\nbeing on them.\n

\nDirected by Lorayne Toldedo, co-directed by Jaybee Larioza under the\nmentorship of Mycs Villoso, Benidled Dance coach and artistic director of De La\nSalle University - Manila Dance Company. Featured performances by Bachelor\nof Arts in Performance Major in Dance program (BPAD) Dance majors Kula\nEnano, Angela Doloroso, Krisalyn Llemit, Justine Ausan, and James Velasques\n(Villanueva, 2025).\n

\nThey are a group of graduating dance students from De La Salle -\nCollege of Saint Benilde who performed at their campus on August 15 and 16\nlast year. Its themes presented social injustices during the Martial Law era,\nwhich was a research-driven production by the students. The drama is entitled\n\u201cAlimuom sa Takip-Silim.\u201d The show focuses on choreography informed by\ndata gathered from historians and sociologists. Their four-act drama,\naccording to the statement they gave to Villanueva, aims to create a necessary\ntension between what we think we know and the actual truth of the past. By\nusing dance to challenge \u201cofficial\u201d narratives and empower silenced\nperspectives, the performance goes beyond simply showing the truth as it\nactively rewrites the story from a different perspective, the marginalized, to\nensure their experiences and sufferings are recognized.\n

\nThe dancers use the stage to explore themes of memory,\ndisappearance, and the fog of historical revisionism. Movements are fluid yet\npainful, as they utilize shadows with dim lighting to mimic the atmosphere of\n\u201ctakip-silim.\u201d\n

\nThe performance is profoundly political as it serves as a \u201cradical\nreclamation of space and narrative. It tackles issues of Desaparecidos and the\nvictims of human rights violations during the dark history of the Philippines.\nThe students use their bodies to tell narratives of the unheard, making them\nknown to people and amplifying these voices. Rather than being silenced, as in\nthe past, they shed light on history and confronted the nation's unresolved\ntraumas.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
